Child poverty is one of the types of poverty that occurs in the world and refers to poverty that affects a part of the group of boys and girls.


The main organization that promotes the fight against this type of poverty defines it as the existing deprivation of social services for children.


Child poverty, therefore, is that poverty that occurs in children. This is one of the types of poverty most combated by organizations, both public and private. Well, this type of poverty affects a group that, in addition to being one of the most vulnerable, has little capacity to combat it.


Child poverty is considered until the boy or girl turns 16 years old; age at which you can enter the labor market.


This type of poverty has irreparable effects on society for the future of the country.

Causes of child poverty

Although there may be many causes that generate child poverty on the planet, there is a consensus on which are the most common causes that lead countries to register high levels of child poverty. Consequences of child poverty

In this sense, among the consequences of this type of poverty the following should be highlighted:

  • It makes learning difficult.
  • It generates high levels of mortality in the country.
  • It paralyzes development.
  • Generates malnutrition.
  • Generates health problems.
  • Slows economic growth.
  • Generates social exclusion.
  • It causes increases in inequality.
  • There is a lack of opportunities.

How is child poverty combated?

Knowing the causes and consequences, one wonders how it is possible to combat this type of poverty. To do this, the different organizations in charge of combating poverty have developed focused plans for this. In the same way that they also establish general lines of action to put an end to it. Therefore, among the main lines of action to end this type of poverty, the following should be highlighted:

  • Know and monitor the evolution of children who are in poverty.
  • Control aid plans, as well as resources, to ensure that they reach where they should go.
  • Enhance these social resources for those who are younger.
  • Provide food and economic funds to countries to prevent these children from dying from malnutrition.
  • Promote basic education and children's access to it.
  • Encourage plans to reinforce health infrastructure, as well as everything that has to do with access to drinking water, as well as telecommunications.
  • In short, actions that are aimed at reducing poverty levels, as well as the general well-being of children.

Street-connected and homeless children

Children across the world are left homeless and forced onto the streets to fend for themselves due to numerous reasons, primarily poverty, war, previous violence and abuse, exploitation, and desperation.
